The purpose of the Global LEAP Awards is to provide clear signals about off-grid appliance quality, suitability, and performance, and to enable companies, investors, and policymakers to make faster, better-informed decisions regarding off-grid appliances. The 2019 Awards will identify low-cost, energy-efficient refrigerator and solar water pump technologies appropriate for communities living in off- and weak-grid areas in developing countries, with support from UKAID and Power Africa’s Beyond the Grid Initiative. Designers, developers, manufacturers and distributors are encouraged to nominate eligible products at the Global LEAP Website. The deadline for nominations is 18 January 2019, with results expected by mid-2019. Prize money will be awarded for innovations that enable reductions in 1) unit cost and 2) end-user price.Winners and Finalists will participate in a global promotional campaign, including opportunities to interface with distributers and investors in key markets.Winners and Finalists will have the opportunity to find potential investors through the newly-formed Efficiency for Access Coalition Investor Network.
